Migrant workers are paying the price of migration

Asia Monitor Resource Centre (AMRC) attended the Global Conference on Workers Rights and Shared Prosperity in Bogor, Indonesia. The Conference held last August 10-12, 2015, with the theme of “Labor Migration: Who Benefits was organized by the Solidarity Center. Sanjiv Pandita, Executive Director of AMRC, shared the realities of migration in Asia and spoke during the Precarious Work and Labour Migration plenary.

Different groups condemn the adverse social and environmental impacts of oil palm plantations in Indonesia on workers, peasants, indigenous peoples, and the environment during a workshop jointly organised by Asia Monitor Resource Centre, WALHI Kalteng, and Sawit Watch in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan on 8-9 August 2015.

[Cambodia] Reject Proposed Law on Associations and Non-governmental Organizations and Trade Union Law

On 10th July this year, the Cambodian parliament will pass   laws which will grossly stifle the rights of ngos and trade unions.As attached are the critical analysis of both the laws;
1. Law on Associations and Non-governmental Organizations (to be passed on  10 July 2015)
2. Trade Union Law (the final draft has not been revealed  since last year)

OSH training in the Electronics Sector in Vietnam

Asia Monitor Resource Centre, through its Occupational Safety and Health Program, conducted an occupational safety and health (OSH) training with electronics workers from the Buc Ning Province in Vietnam last June 26-27, 2015. The 2-day Training of Trainors (ToT) took place in the export processing zone (EPZs) located inside of Buc Ning Province.

Protect Babies and Pregnant Women in Korea

Since the early 2000s, clusters of rare acute interstitial pneumonitis of children were noticed every spring in Korea. The prognosis was quite poor and many of them died. In 2011 April, 7 pregnant women were hospitalized for acute severe respiratory disease of similar nature, and half of them died.
