Malaysia Free Industrial Zones: Reconfiguration of Electronics Production Space_We in the Zone (2)

2012-12-11

The paper discusses the development of the zone in Malaysiaas the country pursues its ambition to become the regional hub for the economic growth. In 2007, Malaysiagovernment put into action its plan for the establishment of the economic corridors in five designated regions in Malaysia. The rapid clustering of the industries through the ambitious ‘corridor’ projects leads to the reconfiguration of the production space and the integration of countries into global production activities.

It also discusses  the manner in which Malaysiapursues its ambition to lead the region in electronics and electrical goods manufacturing. The establishment of the economic corridor and Science and TechnologyPark, which were preceded by guarantees of available land, has accelerated the realization of the ambition. This is also followed by the change in the social contour with the influx of migrant workers.
