About AROSP

The Asian Roundtable on Social Protection (AROSP) is a network of grassroots workers’ organisations, trade unions, NGOs, and scholars in Asia that work on the issues of formal and informal workers. AROSP serves as a platform to provide mutual help, facilitate information sharing, and help organisations build their understanding on social protection. As a regional network, it aims to support and consolidate the regional struggle for social protection for the poor across various sectors in Asia.

In this issue:

  • Urge from Laos for a better social protection - AMRC
  • The New National Social Security Strategy in Bangladesh - SM Morshed, OSHE
  • Fighting for social protection for women workers: three different experience - AMRC
  • Victims of economic development in China: from workers of State-Owned Enterprises to workers under the new normal - AMRC
  • Retirement policy in Hong Kong: a typical example of neo-liberalism - AMRC
  • Resistance against expansion of agricultural plantations in Mindanao, Philippines - Daisy Arago, CTUHR
  • Is formalisation the best social protection? - AMRC
  • Social Protection in aid of corporations? The Filipino workers' dilemma with social security - Jose Carlos Maningat, EILER

The AROSP Newsletter - Call for participation and contributions

One of the objectives of the Asian Roundtable on Social Protection (AROSP) network is to serve as a platform for sharing information on social protection among its members. Thus, besides activities, it was suggested that AROSP should have a newsletter to facilitate communication and exchange of information in the network. As such, a Newsletter on social protection has been started.

The Newsletter is a collective publication of the members of AROSP where you can voice out your opinions and insights on social protection. The AROSP Newsletter needs all your participation, contributions and support. We invite you to contribute articles to the Newsletter. We welcome updates about your organisations, developments in your respective countries, as well as analyses and commentaries about social protection. The maximum word count for each article is suggested to be 800. Please ensure that you provide citations to work that you choose to reference in your articles.

The release of the next issue of the Newsletter is on the second quarter of 2016. The deadline of submission of articles for the next issue is on 30 April 2016. Due to the limited space of the Newsletter, not all contributions will be published. If your contribution is selected for publication, you will receive a special gift from the Editorial Team.

Aside from contributing articles, we also encourage the members of the AROSP network to be part of the Editorial Board. Decisions concerning the Newsletter will be made collectively by the Editorial Board.

Meanwhile, we also plan to present in the Newsletter the names of the organisations that are part of the AROSP network. However, we will adopt an opt-in approach -  organisations that want their names to be shown in the Newsletter should inform the Editors.

You can also support us by circulating the Newsletter around your team and network. Thank you very much for your time and support. If you want to participate or contribute, please feel free to contact samuel@amrc.org.hk or joy@amrc.org.hk.
