Redundant workers seek payoff
Around 40 workers who were retrenched in December filed complaints with the labour department in January for severance pay from Well Link, an electronics factory.
The severance pay seekers ranged from management to workers. In addition to severance pay, they are asking for the last two months’ wages that had not been paid.
Former store clerk Noriha Mohd Suwardi, who had worked in the company for seven years, said that Well Link sent out letters of notice in December, claiming December and January wages would be paid. Noriha who earned RM760 per month said, “We all also signed agreement letters to receive our retrenchment benefits in four instalments from February. The last payment was supposed to be on 31 May but to date no money has been paid to me or to the others.”
