Judge rules for government

In early January airport staff members of the Public Employees Union in aviation, immigration, and met divisions went on strike for four days to back claims of management harassment.
In his ruling, Chief Justice Sir John Muira, said the industrial action was illegal because the union had failed to give state-owned Solomon Airlines 28 days’ notice as required by the Essential Services Act which applies to government employees.
The government was delighted with the decision, crowing that it should serve as a lesson to trade unionists who use strike action to get what they want.
