PHILIPPINES

Toyota - Still Union Busting

From TMPCWA

The vehicle union, TMPCWA, continues to be ignored by Toyota Philippines which stubbornly refuses to recognise this government sanctioned trade union. The company sacked 227 workers and suspended another 73 workers on March 16th this year despite making record profits in 2000. See ALU 38 Action Alert for details.

Latest news from the TMPCWA:

On May 28 the TMPCWA union held peaceful pickets at Toyota Bicutan and Sta.Rosa plants campaigning for a return to work of sacked members and to start collective bargaining negotations. Both pickets were forcefully dispersed by the security guards and police. Pickets disturbed no people taking parts into the plants for production. Ten members were injured and taken to hospital. Five security guards surrounded one picket who had more than ten wounds on his body resulting from a beating, and needed an urgent operation.

If you have not already complained to the company, have a thought for these workers and complain to them this time.
