Council workers strike

Work at council depots in Lautoka, Rakiraki Tavua, and Nadi stopped for five hours on 25 March when more than 500 Public Works employees walked out over violations of safety procedure, non-payment of meal allowance, and bad working conditions.

Poasa Manakiwai, a union official with the Public Employees Union said the action came after a week of negotiations failed to resolve the problems. The employees returned to work after depot managers promised to address the situation promptly.
