A SEX WORKER FROM CHINA IN MACAU

My family name is Wang. I am from Changsha in Hunan. I will not tell you my age.

I have five brothers and sisters. I attended school from seven years old until I was 19. Then I wanted to go to university, but my family had no money so I couldn't go.

When I first left home to work, I went to Zhuhai [in China, near Macau], working in a garment factory.

Then I arrived here last year to be a sex worker because I could not find a job in Changsha. A friend told me that I could make money like this, but I have never been a sex worker anywhere else. I would not be a sex worker in Zhuhai because the police are very hostile, unlike Macau. The police here usually leave us alone, and Macau people are OK, they do not discriminate against us.

This is my second visit to Macau. I came here for the second time two days ago, direct from Changsha.

Since my first time in Macau, I have been at home, but I had no work. My family fed and sheltered me, but I felt uncomfortable about this, so I came back.

Nobody in my family knows I am here as a sex worker, I tell them I work in a factory. I am divorced and have a three-year-old child. My ex-husband is a good man. It was his idea to divorce, and we did so three years ago. I will not tell you why. I enjoyed sex with him.

My mother is looking after my son.

I paid no introduction fee to come here, but my passport cost 1,000 yuan. The visa lasts for three weeks.

I always work from the street around here (near the East Asia hotel), but never on my own. I work every day, usually for about eight hours.

I will not tell you how many clients I service per day, neither will I tell you how much money I make, nor the price I charge

The money I make is all mine, nobody else gets a share.

I know it is easy to catch sexually transmitted diseases, so I try to be very careful. Clients must use a condom. No condom, no sex. But this has never really been a problem for my clients. I have never been mistreated by a client, but it is not pleasant work. I feel nothing when I have sex with a client.

Every week I go for a health check which costs 200 yuan.

I will go back to Changsha when the visa expires, but don't know what I will do.
